Within the food manufacturing and distribution industries, we focus on a few specific areas. We aim to support and aid collaboration between 3 departments that do not typically work together:
Food Departments - These are the departments responsible for food safety and processing, product innovation, and repair and maintenance of the equipment.
Supply Chain Departments - These departments are responsible for lean processes, sourcing supply, and food distribution.
IT Departments - These departments are responsible for automation, integrated software and/or hardware, robotics, and technology used to track products such as RFIDS.
Our goal is to break these departments out of their silos and create collaboration. Here are some examples of the results collaboration could create:
ØThe IT Department could work with the Food Department to improve the tracking of food safety standards or to automate the needs of the Food Department.
ØThe Supply Chain Department could work with the Food Department to develop products that could take advantage of cheaper or better suppliers that may not be fully utilized with the current product mix
ØAll three departments could collaborate on product packaging that would better protect products and reduce damages in transit. Supply Chain would identify products that are frequently damaged, Food would develop better packaging, and IT would find ways to produce the packaging more efficiently.(Ideally, Food would also bring snacks for the brainstorming sessions.)
